True Joy
Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback
Rabbi Yoshi reaches back 30 years ago to a Simchat Torah gathering in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Mea Shearim, where a Chabad rabbi asked, “What is joy?” His answer: The only true joy is the joy of studying Torah. Studying Torah helps us to know and to understand. The discipline of Torah study teaches us how to learn, to unpack a text, to ask good questions, to wrestle with an idea, and it teaches us how to teach, how to empower others. Beyond that, we study Torah because we want the study of Torah to affect the way we go about our lives in the world.
