A Song of Miracle
By Rabbi Sari Laufer

This week is known as Shabbat Shira, the Shabbat of Song, referring to the song the Israelites sing upon crossing the sea. This year, I will once again have the honor of chanting these words—with its special melody; this time, I’ll get to do it at Camp Ramah, with our families on Family Camp. The words, the song, is known as Shirat HaYam—the Song of the Sea.

Center for Jewish Life presents
How to Read the Bible

with Rabbi Ron Stern
Tuesdays, February 6, 13, 20 | 7:30-9 p.m.
The most sacred text of the Jewish people stands at the center of our identity as Jews.  For centuries it has been read as the revealed word of God and a source of history for our people from ancient days.  Modern research and archeology are constantly providing us with insights that challenge the traditional view of the Bible by providing us with a rich context for understanding its origin.  However, far from undermining the meaning and significance of the Bible, our expanded knowledge actually makes the text more inspiring by explaining how our ancestors captured some of their deepest ideas in this most complex text.
