Stephen Wise Temple will welcome Stoneman Douglas High School students Mia Freeman and Hayley Licata to speak at Shabbat Services. Both young women are survivors of February’s shooting in Parkland, Florida. Mia and Hayley will share their experiences and tell their story.
The students will be accompanied by Rabbi Melissa Zalkin Stollman of Congregation Kol Tikvah in Parkland.
Wise has also arranged for the students to speak to peers at Milken Community High School, deToledo High School, and Shalhevet High School. They will then participate in the Downtown Los Angeles March for Our Lives rally on Saturday, March 24.
Shabbat Services will take place in the Stephen Wise Temple Sanctuary at 15500 Stephen S. Wise Drive, Los Angeles, CA. Services begin at 6:15 p.m.
Hayley Licata, 16, is a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Born in New York, her family moved to Florida when she was just a month old. A dancer, Hayley currently assists teaching younger girls in dance classes. She is a member of Best Buddies and has volunteered for the Friendship Initiative, both programs that serve the special needs population. Hayley is also a member of the Girl Scouts, an animal-lover, and enjoys spending free time outdoors and especially at the beach.
Mia Freeman, 17, is a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. She serves as the secretary for Best Buddies, a volunteer position she has held for two years. She is an active member of the JAFCO children’s ability center and also volunteers with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. She is a volunteer with Scentsability, a candle-making company that employs adults with special needs. She enjoys spending time with family and friends in addition to her community work.
