The Mourner’s Kaddish: An Eternal Opportunity
by Rabbi David Woznica
It is customary for those in mourning to recite Kaddish after the death of a mother, father, husband, wife, sister, brother, son or daughter. After the loss of a parent, a mourner traditionally recites Kaddish daily for 11 months. One is also to say Kaddish on yartzeit (the anniversary of the death) and at yizkor (which occurs four times a year, on Yom Kippur, and the last day of Sukkot, Passover and Shavuot).

Member Spotlight: Two Generations of the Williams Family
This month, Marilyn and David Williams shared with us their stories from the very earliest days of the Wise community; Felice and Doug Williams were kind enough to tell us about their experiences as Wise members. In 1964, Marilyn and David attended a meeting with Rabbi Zeldin at a private home in Westwood with 35 other couples where the group decided to form a new congregation and build a new temple. A committee was formed to select a site that would be the center of Jewish life including a children’s school and a synagogue that became the central core of Jewish life in Southern California.
