Dear [first_name],

In these deeply challenging times, we hope that you, your family, and your friends are doing well and navigating the evolving nature of our community’s and our nation’s response. As you know, our public worship services, classes, and programs have moved online exclusively and every day we are updating our resources to continue to provide meaningful worship, study, and connection with our clergy, educators, and each other.

We want you to know that our clergy, staff, and lay leaders will be reaching out to every member of our community in the next few days. We want to check in to see how you’re doing, what you may need, or how you may wish to help others. If you would like to contact us now, you may email us at [email protected].

Our Wise team is building a response task force to help all of our members in a variety of ways. Together, we will get through this. As we sing with Cantor Lam and Cantor Lutz, and as Rabbi Woznica reminded us on Friday night, Adonai li, v’lo ira–our faith in the Divine presence, our trust in our community, and our love for one another can provide strength and hope in these frightening days.

DAILY KAVANAH

In times of crisis especially, we find comfort in a tradition that is thousands of years old. We have survived all sorts of trials and tribulations, never giving in to despair. Indeed, one famous Biblical text describes our people as  אֲסִירֵי הַתִּקְוָה (aseerey ha-tikvah) — “prisoners of hope.” It’s as if to say—we have no other option: hope is the only way forward. Together, as a community, we will continue to study, to pray, to support one another. It’s the only way forward.
