Malcolm McElheney
Program Director, B’nei Mitzvah and Hebrew Studies

Malcolm is proud to have served the congregants of Stephen Wise Temple since 2020. Born and raised in Sacramento, his connection to synagogue and congregational life spurred a love of being Jewish. This excitement followed him from childhood through adulthood as he went from participant to staff to alumnus of the Union for Reform Judaism’s various youth programs, including Camp Newman, NFTY, and the Kutz Camp. Malcolm attended New York University where he curated an individualized degree combining Judaic studies, child development and psychology, and nonprofit management. After NYU, he returned to California serving Congregation Shomrei Torah in Sonoma County as their Youth Coordinator and a Cantorial Soloist. Malcolm joined the Stephen Wise professional community as the Resident Educator while a graduate student at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He graduated HUC-JIR with three master’s degrees in the fields of Educational Leadership, Jewish Learning, and Nonprofit Management. Malcolm was thrilled to accept his current position at Wise Temple as the Program Director for B’nai Mitzvah & Hebrew Studies. His portfolio includes guiding families through b’nai mitzvah and directing the CYE’s Hebrew learning programs.
