On 25 Years: A Conversation with Rabbi Yoshi on the Occasion of his Doctor of Divinity
Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback and Rabbi Sari Laufer

Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback returns after his sabbatical to reflect on his 25 years in the rabbinate in a compelling discussion with Rabbi Sari Laufer. As we started Rabbi Sari’s favorite book of the Torah, Bamidbar, and the Israelites begin their journey to the Promised Land, we read that they have a lot of learning they need to do before they reach their destination. Their journey took 40 years. While Rabbi Yoshi’s journey has taken “only” 25 years, he’s learned quite a lot. After earning his honorary Doctor of Divinity degree, and as we approach our annual Haggigat HaTorah ceremony with our Wise School students, Rabbi Yoshi talks with Rabbi Sari about the cycle of the year, the sacred and the mundane, and what he’s learned. He reveals the challenges and the lessons of the past 25 years: the parts of the job he didn’t expect, building a community and building a campus, and doing it all in keeping with the congregation’s values. He also talks about the latest happenings in Israel.
