We are so happy to announce that Wise’s own Sara Anderson will be home with us during her summer break from her cantorial studies. Sara will work with the Lam Media Center Music Archive, organizing and researching the incredible music that has been commissioned for our Stephen Wise Temple community throughout its history. She will also help lead us in Shabbat worship frequently during the summer months. It is such a pleasure to welcome back a bat bayit, this daughter of our congregation, home for the summer as she enriches our community with her many gifts.
Sara Anderson is a ritual leader, Jewish educator, musician, and current Cantorial Student at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City. She is an HUC-JIR Tisch-Star fellow. A native of Los Angeles, Sara grew up at Stephen Wise Temple, where she studied under the tutelage of her mentor, Cantor Nathan Lam. Her upbringing at Stephen Wise and exposure at a young age to liturgy, Jewish music, and holiness in community has deeply influenced Sara’s life. She remains a seasonal clergy intern at Wise, leading the High Holidays and serving her home community in the summer. During her Year in Israel, she served as the Cantorial Intern for Beit Tefilah Israeli, an inclusive non-denominational community in Tel Aviv. Currently, Sara is the Cantorial Intern at East End Temple in Gramercy, NYC. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music; Vocal Performance from UCLA, and earned her Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from Mannes College, the New School for Music.
