Whether you prefer traditional prayer, singing, Torah study, or celebrating the beauty of our natural world, there is a Shabbat at Stephen Wise Temple for everyone. Below, please find our offerings both for Shabbat evenings and mornings in our comprehensive guide to Shabbat at Wise.

Shabbat Evening Services: 6:15 p.m., every Friday

Shabbat on the Plaza is back! This year, our first outdoor Shabbat will be on Friday, June 21 (weather permitting). We hope to see you there!

Shabbat evening services are a chance to check in with God, with our family, and with ourselves. They provide a rhythm to the week, a respite from our day-to-day lives, and an opportunity to connect with our community through song and prayer. Every Friday at 6:15 p.m., welcome Shabbat with us in person or online. We welcome both members and non-members to our services, which are livestreamed on our Facebook page, on our YouTube channel, and on our Wise Online page. You can see who’s leading each service by subscribing to our Eyes on Wise email list.

If you hear a particularly stirring sermon, or just didn’t get a chance to hear our clergy’s dvar Torah, you can listen and download our Shabbat sermons here or you can visit our complete sermon video archive.

Shabbat Mornings

Spirit of Shabbat with Rabbi Yoshi

Shabbat is a time for reflection, contemplation, learning, and most certainly rest.  This year, Rabbi Yoshi kicks off a new and uniquely Wise approach to Shabbat mornings. We’ll begin each session with a few moments of reflection and contemplation, including a brief selection of the most beautiful songs and prayers for Shabbat. This will set the tone for an hour of deep and engaging Torah study where we’ll work together to uncover the timeless wisdom embedded in our ancient tradition. We will enjoy evocative and provocative conversations about a variety of topics, as we apply that wisdom to issues relevant to our  present historical moment.

We will conclude with a special kaddish that gives thanks for our learning together and also provides an opportunity to memorialize our loved ones. Rabbi Yoshi will be our primary teacher and leader with the participation of other clergy, outside experts, and of course, you!

Though most sessions will be held in our Chapel Study on our Stephen Wise Temple campus, some will be hosted in participants’ homes, and all will also be available on Zoom. The experience will begin each Saturday morning at 8:45 a.m. with reflection, continue with Torah study at 9:00 am, and will finish with kaddish and closing prayers at 9:50.

Join us as we discover and make meaning through this fresh approach to Torah study together.

These sessions will occur weekly, rain or shine, each Saturday at 8:45 a.m. online and in our Chapel Study.
