Our annual Wise School STEAM Day this year is on Wednesday, March 4, and this year’s theme is “Sustainability has the power to heal the Earth.” Students will engage with this theme of sustainability throughout the day, with a variety of grade-appropriate, hands-on STEAM experiences.
We are excited to host Rosanne Sachson, a NASA Solar System Ambassador, commissioned to communicate the science and excitement of NASA’s space exploration missions with community groups. She has recently returned from NASA’s Ames Research Center in the Silicon Valley, where she was briefed on the latest missions, research and development in aeronautics, as well as exploration technology and science.
Students will also experience real ocean life with the Aquarium on Wheels, where they will participate in an interactive presentation to learn about ocean inhabitants and their unique adaptations for survival in a watery world, followed by a hands-on opportunity to touch local marine life.
Parents are invited to experience STEAM Day for the first hour, from 8 -9 a.m. You can choose to participate in the Aquarium of the Pacific presentation in Katz (K-3) or the NASA presentation in Udko (4-6).
Throughout the day, other learning experiences include Sustainable Engineering with the Rediscover Center, and Planting and Art in the Pe’ah Garden with Ms. Coatney and Ms. Navah, Tiny House presentations in Project Studio, or sustainable transportation with an electric car demo in the carpool circle.
When they come home that day, be sure to ask your children all about the things they learned and experienced in their various STEAM sessions!
