During the High Holy Day season, Stephen Wise Temple provides multiple opportunities for members of our community to help in tikkun olam efforts, both near and far. Here are several ways you can help:
How to help victims of Hurricane Ian
The Jewish Federations of North America have set up a relief fund to assist victims of Hurricane Ian. Ian has already caused billions of dollars of damage, flooded communities, and cut off power to millions of residents. These funds will go toward shelter, recover, aid, and rebuilding. You can donate to the JFNA 2022 Hurricane Relief Fund HERE.
The following is a list of Florida organizations providing support to those who have been most impacted by Hurricane Ian:
Wise hosting Walking Together Shoe Drive
Through October 16, Stephen Wise Temple and Volunteer Collective are teaming up for the Walking Together Shoe Drive.
We are collecting new and gently used shoes and new socks for men, women, and children. The campaign is a partnership with Shoes for the Homeless, Inc., which distributes the shoes to nonprofits throughout Los Angeles.
Please bring your shoes to the temple and drop them in the boxes in the Sanctuary foyer. It is best to tie the laces together and put them in a bag if you can. Don’t forget new socks!
Collect food for L.A. Family Housing
You can help feed those in need by bringing non-perishable food with you for Yom Kippur services. In partnership with L.A. Family Housing, we will have collection bins conveniently placed on campus to collect food for those in need. You can also donate other goods at their drop-off locations.
