Headwinds and Tailwinds

by Rabbi Ron Stern

In life there are headwinds and there are tailwinds. Social scientists tell us that when things don’t feel like they are going right we exaggerate the headwinds blowing against our efforts. When things are going well and we’re on top of the world, we tend to over-credit our success to self-created advantages and minimize things like context, environment, or the support of others.

The Jewish Future in a Changing America

with Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Bret L. Stephens

Tuesday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m.

For the past six months the American community and the Jewish community have been engaged in introspection and debate about the altered political world we inhabit and the challenges that America’s democratic system seems to be facing. Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Bret Stephens has been at the center of that debate. From his perch as a semi-weekly columnist at the Wall Street Journal, where he wrote for eleven years, and now at The New York Times, he has been uniquely positioned to opine on the challenges now facing American journalists and politicans alike: issues of immigration and refugee rights, free speech and a free press, and many other concerns across all political lines. Please join us for this insightful and fascinating evening with a powerful voice in American media.

This event is sponsored in partnership with Community Advocates, Inc., Jews United for Democracy and Justice, the Jewish Journal, Sinai Temple, and Valley Beth Shalom.
