What’s Missing From Jewish Memorials and Holocaust Museums

Rabbi Ron Stern uses his experience at the Auschwitz exhibit at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library to discuss the roots of the Holocaust. After reading an article in The Atlantic by Dara Horn (who held a book talk recently with Wise), he gained new perspective on Jewish memorials throughout the world. Horn’s book, provocatively titled “People Love Dead Jews,” pointed out that most landmarks, museums, and sites of Jewish interest around the world are for Jewish communities that no longer exist. Like the city of Harbin, China, they are dedicated to Jews (often dead Jews), but devoid of real, live Jews.
