Stephen Wise Temple families pack and prepare “Goodnight Boxes” for LA Family Housing during Sukkot
This past week, children from Stephen Wise Temple families helped decorate, pack, and prepare 40 “Goodnight Boxes” for families transitioning out of homelessness through LA Family Housing.
Each of the boxes contained bedtime supplies for families, including bedding, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. They also included children’s books donated by Wise families, which were collected at a Sunday Sukkot event at the home of Senior Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback. During that event, Wise children decorated the boxes with stickers and markers, adding messages like “sweet dreams,” and writing notes for each box. Boxes were also decorated by CYE students.
The initiative was spearheaded by Rabbi Ron Stern and Wise members Brian and Emily Soloway as part of our tikkun olam efforts. In August, the Soloways and other Wise families were the driving force behind LAFH’s Fuel for School Festival, which helped raise $35,000 for LAFH.
About LA Family Housing: LA Family Housing is a tremendous organization that helps people transition out of homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services.
