Last week was a busy one for Wise School students. On Wednesday, they solemnly marked Yom HaZikaron. On Thursday, they celebrated Israeli independence with Yom Ha’atzmaut. On Friday, they paid tribute to their teachers with Yom HaMoreh, which capped off a week of teacher appreciation activities sponsored by the Wise Parents Association.

On Yom HaZikaron—Israel’s Memorial Day—Wise school she students participated in a meaningful memorial service, followed by a moment of silence, mirroring that held all over the State of Israel.

On Thursday, Wise School fourth graders presented a special performance, with some students dressed in the blue and white of Israel’s flag, and others dressed in IDF shirts and military-style fatigues. Afterwards, all the students were able to visit the Souk, where they could purchase goodies and Israeli food with shekels.

Our Aaron Milken Center students (follow AMC on Instagram!) also celebrated Israel, as they sat in chairs and took an imaginary flight to Israel. While there, they visited cities, wrote notes to put into the Kotel, learned how to make Israeli salad, created sand art, participated in an archeological dig, and learned some Hebrew.

After a week full of Wise Parent Association-sponsored tasty treats like fresh churros and funnel cake (provided by Chikiz’s Churros), daily breakfast bars, and gifts, Wise School’s teachers were honored on Friday during a special service in Stephen Wise Temple’s main sanctuary. Faculty members Sara Sharaf, Brett Weisman, and Amy Burch spoke, as did several students.

The WPA finished the week by hosting Wise School teachers on Casden Plaza for a catered lunch featuring fresh tacos, sushi, and paletas, accompanied by live music.

As the Wise School year winds down, don’t miss out on our year-end, all-school Kabbalat Shabbat on May 27, which will be followed by an exclusive book talk with author, activist, and Wise School parent, Noa Tishby.
