Stephen Wise Temple and Schools Yom HaShoah Survivor Testimony: Michele Rodri
Tuesday, April 18 | 10:30 a.m. | Sanctuary | In-Person or Watch Online
The evening of Monday, April 17 marks the start of Yom HaShoah, the day on which we pause to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust. Stephen Wise Temple and Schools will be commemorating the day with a meaningful service on Tuesday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary, led by our sixth grade Wise School students.
Last year, we welcomed Holocaust survivor Trudie Strobel to Wise to tell her story. This year, we are privileged to welcome a special guest speaker, Holocaust survivor Michele Rodri, who will share her remarkable story. Rodri was a young child when Nazi Germany invaded her native France. Shortly after the occupation, a German soldier found her playing in the streets and sent her to the Drancy transit camp. Her brother soon managed to secure her release and brought her to a convent where she concealed her Jewish identity. Her parents later sent her to live with a non-Jewish foster family, where she spent the rest of the war.
When Holocaust survivors in our community share their personal experiences and stories of courage, resilience, and hope, it allows us to preserve their memories and carry their messages forward. This memorial is open to all temple members and parents who wish to attend. It will be livestreamed should you wish to watch it online.
The program is expected to last approximately one hour.
