Goals
This course presents to the students the ideas and concepts, through the study of key texts that show the origins and ways of celebration of life cycle events, ongoing daily ritual and the holidays. This course demonstrates the consistency, the depth and the human sensitivity of Jewish life. A fundamental objective is to create awareness of Kedushah — separateness, holiness, specialness — of Jewish living.
“The Rhythms of Jewish Living” introduces students to the ideas, beliefs and practices which define and shape a Jewish life. This course focuses on the sources that shape the “why” and much less on the “how to.” Like Purposes, there is a heavy emphasis on the use of Biblical texts to develop key ideas.
