Last year, Wise members Emily and Brian Soloway spearheaded the inaugural Fuel for School Festival with Wise Center for Tikkun Olam partner L.A. Family Housing. Donations of both time and treasure from the Wise community helped make that event so successful that the festival will return for its second year on July 29 in Pacoima.

“We are extremely grateful for the support we received last year from Wise families,” said Brian Soloway. “Contributions from Wise played a crucial role in pulling together the backpacks filled with school supplies.”

The Fuel for School Festival aims to not only excite underserved and struggling families about the upcoming school year, but to provide much-needed supplies. In 2022, three dozen students and their families attended a fun-filled day marked by treats and games, and received backpacks, school supplies, and other fun items to get them ready for school. This year, close to 45 students and their families are expected to attend.

“L.A. Family Housing has told us that this year’s kids are really eager to participate and an excited buzz has already spread about the fun-filled day,” Soloway said.

The event will have food and carnival games for children and families, and will furnish young learners with new backpacks, shoes, clothes, and school supplies. Wise community members can help by purchasing those supplies through a special Amazon Wish List and a special Target Wish List.
