This month we’re turning the Member Spotlight on Lori, Leandro, Francesca, and Roan Tyberg. The Tyberg family (including Rosita and Juan Tyberg, Leandro’s parents) have been part of the Wise community for over three decades. Lori and Leandro took some time to tell us about their family’s life with Wise.
WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME PART OF THE STEPHEN WISE TEMPLE COMMUNITY?
We joined Wise as a couple when we were married (by Rabbi Herscher) in 2002, although Leandro attended Wise Elementary as a child and his family joined Wise in the early 80s. We attended services together when we were dating and fell in love with Wise.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO WISE?
We found a sincere and authentic community where we could grow and provide our children with a strong Jewish identity and a high quality education.
WHAT ARE YOU INVOLVED IN WITH WISE?
Leandro is the chair of the building committee overseeing the construction of the Katz Family Pavilion and Shalom Garden. Lori has been extensively involved on Temple and Wise School committees. Currently, Lori is an Executive Committee member on the Board of Directors, oversees Wise Hearts, our caring community, and is a Chair of the Tikkun Olam committee as well as being a former Wise Parents Association President.
WHAT IS A MESSAGE THAT YOU WANT TO TEACH YOUR CHILDREN?
When you are part of a community you have to take care of each other and look out for one another, because being part of a community is a precious thing. We have to all contribute and take ownership in our community — helping to make it thrive and strive to strengthen the bonds between us.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO GIVE SO GENEROUSLY OF YOUR TIME AND FINANCIAL RESOURCES?
It’s something we enjoy doing and there is something extremely enriching and personally rewarding in the contributions we make.
